Gateway Park Workday - 2/1/2014 - 8:30am

There is only a few hundred yards left to completely open this season's trail corridor. We expect to have enough folks to spread out and begin working on trail surface, so expect to see rapid progress in the next few workdays.

Lunch on Saturday will be Spaghetti. We'll have Italian sausage on the side for the carnivores. Bring your appetite.

Meet at the gas burn off parking lot just east of the E 1st bridge. (location: http://goo.gl/maps/8MkhL )We will have the equipment we just need folks to show up and have some fun building trail. Lunch will be provided.

More details to follow.

Better late than never! Here is the February Gateway Park Workfest photo narrative! Sorry for the delay!

FWMBA hosted another stellar Workfest as work continues on the new trail extension on the east side of Gateway Park. FWMBA volunteers added 148 man hours to the Gateway Park mountain bike trail.

Image
22 folks attended the Workfest!

Bench cut specialist, Terry Chandler in action!

The name of the game in new trail construction is a clear and defined corridor!

Relics from the beer drinking past!

Early trail corridor clearing

Near the end of the new trail alignment there will be an epic section of bench cut worthy of a name like, Shark’s Tooth or The Matterhorn or some other dramatic name!

The beginning of a long and gnarly section of bench cut

As usual the food at the Gateway Park Workfest did not disappoint!

Image
Nice desserts too!

Behind every great trail is a great trail steward . . . and a cook . . . and a talent for all things MacGyver. Andy Mans wears a lot of hats taking care of the Gateway Park singletrack.

Join us on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 8:30am for the March Gateway Park Workfest! Pulled pork tacos will be served!

Those are cool. I always wanted to put cameras out at KH.

I bought the cheapest ones I could find. Had I known they wouldn't get stolen or destroyed, I'd have spent more than $20/ea. So far, we have been pretty lucky. They seem to be keeping folks honest around the toolboxes too.

Which ones are you using? I could possibly use some semi disposable ones for remote checkpoints on some of our stuff as well as to put out on the trail from time to time for shits and giggles.

These are "EZCAM". They're pretty sorry. The optics are poor, they're slow to trigger, and they eat batteries. One of the guys at work here "knows a guy" and got me some refurbs for $20/ea.

If you're not trying to capture a timestamp, the orienteering punches would work for you.

The adventure race folks use these for their checkpoints.
