Here's a tip for the racer types (no purse or trophies though)...because of the rain (smoothes the dirt), a bit higher pavement ratio and fewer big hills this will probably be our fastest route ever. A road bike could possibly pull it off this time around. No sag vehicles though so don't come crying to me if you do run out of tubes in the middle of nowhere.

Fuck you for making me rethink tire choice. 38mm cross or 32mm slick?

32mm semi-slick.

Are you racing? If not I'd always opt for some lugs, particularly at night. Goonie's thought isn't a bad one. They are still dirt roads and there will be loose turns and unexpected ruts along the way.

Sounded like more pavement. The Marathon crosses float hella bettah in gravel than the Supremes. Learnt that the hard way.

Our night route always has a bit more pavement than the daytime routes. I'm guessing this one is about 60/40 dirt/pavement. The day routes are usually 80/20.

runningning my rig for what it's built for. Gravel. If I need to adjust I'll just make the legs hurt a little more.

Would a regular ass road bike be able to handle the course? Not to worried about control and whatnots, I just don't want to trash the bike to badly. A little is OK so long as I don't end up carrying the damnd thing.

It's possible but you never know for sure, particularly at night. My guess is ten strong riders on road bikes would end up with 2 of the top 3 but also with at least 3 walking in.

Hell. In anyway. Maybe I will slap some narrow tires on the mountain bike. Or just use what I got. More worried about finishing than winning.
