Already have over 50 entries so this one looks like it may be bigger than usual. I think this one will be the most fun so far.

https://www.bikereg.com/Net/red-river-riot

Our chip timing system allows us to tweak the format of the Red River Riot a bit AND allow us to keep track of interim results throughout the day. Here's the sketch for what we have in mind, let me know if I'm off base.

We are just using an Open category. Riders can determine during the day how far they do or do not want to ride.

3 loops instead of two. Riders who complete loop 1 only will do a total of 35ish miles. Riders who complete loops 1 and 2 will do a total of 70ish miles. Riders who complete all 3 loops will do a total of 128ish miles.

Each loop ends at the staging area so riders can reload from their vehicles or from what we have available in staging. Riders will hit the timing loop upon completion of the lap for a split time and roll over it again on exit for the next loop. This will give us a transition time in between loops and also let us know who is out on the course and on which loop.

Loop 1 will be an "easy" but scenic loop (no Windmill Hill). A great warm up for the rest of the day and a fantastic intro to gravel grinders and/or longer rides for beginners.

Loop 2 will be the classic Red River Riot terrain that goes by Bar H and up Windmill Hill. If you think you are a beginner but still want the Windmill Hill experience, you should start training now.

Loop 3 will be our traditional Puppy Dawg Corner/Cow Valley route and will also go up Windmill Hill. This is the only loop where an aid station will be available. The other loops are close enough to staging/start/finish.

We will do t-shirts for a limited number of riders TBD. I doubt we will be cooking for this one but we will probably provide grills and encourage folks to bring their own so that there will be plenty of food around.

More TBD

That's just the rough draft at this point. I still need to scout some of the new stuff.

So uh, is there a time limit on this ride?

No, but we may leave if folks take too long. Chips should allow us to know who exactly is still out.

easiest way to get this to my Garmin account? http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4075800

Or actually really on my Garmin. Do I have to open up account everywhere? Strava, Garmin, tumblr wives, ridewithgps, etc.

I have a new 810 (because I am baller), but have had no time to jack with it (it really seems like another job to work this shit).

Can you tell a tell a bike rider what to do? Does it involve shoving a fence post through a pool wall?

Register online to save $15. Day of registration will be available BUT it's $50. We're not being greedy though...all day of entries go to a pool for some cool prizes for those who finish the whole thing. More day of registrations = cooler prizes. https://www.bikereg.com/Confirmed/22102

Thanks man. I was afraid I was gonna have to use a vi editor.

Great pre-reg numbers. Better get more port-a-lets.

Thanks for registering for the 2014 Red River Riot. Please read this message in its entirety.

Staging area is Muenster High School athletic complex 520 7th Street in Muenster (across from the cemetery). Ride start is 8:30 am, riders’ meeting at 8:15am. Please plan to arrive before 8:00 to sign waivers, receive timing chips and number plates.

THIS IS A SELF SUPPORTED RIDE. THERE ARE NO OFFICIAL REST AREAS EXCEPT FOR THE STAGING AREA. THERE IS NO SAG SUPPORT. IF YOU ARE LOST OR BROKEN DOWN THE EXPECTATION IS THAT YOU WILL FIND YOUR OWN WAY BACK. PLEASE CARRY ENOUGH WATER, FOOD AND SUPPLIES TO GET YOU THROUGH YOUR CURRENT LEG. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS RIDE IF YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE BEING 20 MILES FROM “CIVILIZATION” ON YOUR OWN.

Formal disclaimer out of the way. We will have vehicles sweeping the course at some point but it may be hours down the road. The route comes back to staging area for every lap so you can refuel and reload water/drinks there. Riders are required to “check in & check out” every lap at the staging area. Check in/out will be done automatically via chip timing. You must go under the arch coming and (minimum of 20 seconds later) going out. We will go over those details in the riders’ meeting.

You can determine how long or short your ride will be at any lap. This is why we ask that you “check out” through the timing arch. We will use that feature to determine which riders are on what loops. The course is made up of 3 loops or cloverleaves. Loops 1 and 2 are west of Muenster and Loop 3 goes east. When you head out from staging just follow the arrow for the loop you are on at that time. Loops 1 and 2 share some of the same roads on the way out, Loops 2 and 3 share some of the roads on the way back.

The course is marked but we always recommend a GPS backup of some sort just in case you miss a turn or markings are disturbed. Maps and routes are available at Spinistry.com via ridewithgps.com. Detailed instructions for Garmin upload are under the export tab. There is also a cool Android app that’s easy to use called Track Navigator.

Post ride food/drink is included with your entry. Please plan to hang out and socialize with the other grinders once your journey is completed.

207!!! That is a Red River Riot record by a very wide margin. This is gonna be a blast. I went by Blue Ostrich winery today and worked a deal for those who are interested in visiting there tomorrow. Tastings are normally $5 but fee is waived if you show up on a bike or come by afterwards and say you are with the Spinistry group. I sampled their new cab today and really liked it.
