Or do you plan to use the fire ring grate?

IIRC, Hawthorne does not have grilles at each site.

They do, however, have fire rings, and some have a grille attached to the fire ring.

Bringing the Snoopy (actually Buzz Lightyear) fishing pole. I'm thinking I'll put a real hook, bob float and minnow or worm on the kid's line. It'd be cool if he actually caught something. On the IDB map linked earlier, it looks like there is actually a spot designated as the kid's fishing pond.
I'm going to bring a rod for myself as well. I haven't fished in a long time, but it might be something fun to do when the kids are knocked out ... if that even happens. Also, I asked ... you don't need a license to fish in a state park that you paid to enter.

Rode there this afternoon. FYI - Poison ivy (oak or sumac ... whatever) is still kicking it old school.
Campsites cannot be held .. first come-first serve. I'm thinking that we'll be shooting for 10am or so.

Same here.
Is the P.I. at the campsites or on the trail?

I didn't walk through the campsite. I came home with stripes of irritated skin on my legs.I'm guessing they came from the ride.
I did drive by the Hawthorne campsite and it was really busy.

Just got the tip from TBlazer that one site was still available at Hawthorne, so I just reserved it.

Also, I reserved for Friday night as well as Saturday. That way Kman and I get two nights there instead of one, and, there's a better chance of getting a premium site with good ones adjacent. Per Bill, sounds like 11, 13 and 14 are the ones to try for. If I can, I'll stage some stuff in the empty sites next door to save them for when yous guys arrive on Saturday.

If anyone else wants to join on Friday night, come on out! We should get there around 6:30 or 7pm.
